Annual surface wind monitoring bulletin for the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The current issue of the annual bulletin on surface wind monitoring on the territory of the republic of Kazakhstan provides key information on wind-regime characteristics across the country’s 17 administrative regions for the year 2024. The bulletin presents data on seasonal wind features, anomalies, the number of days with strong winds, maximum gusts, as well as information on extreme meteorological events related to wind that occurred during the year. In addition, it includes long-term changes in wind characteristics and the results of linear trend assessments.

Data Sources

The bulletin is based on data from the Republican Hydrometeorological Fund of the RSE “Kazhydromet,” including:

  • maximum wind speed;
  • number of days with strong winds;
  • calculations of anomalies of the annual mean wind speed and anomalies in the number of days;
  • calculations of seasonal anomalies and the number of days exceeding the 95th percentile;
  • calculations of long-term trends in mean seasonal wind speed;
  • calculations of long-term trends in the number of days with strong winds by season and an assessment of linear trends.

Purpose

The annual surface wind monitoring bulletin is intended for specialists whose work is related to the assessment of wind loads and the effects of surface winds, including wind-energy experts, architects, environmental specialists, geographers, as well as scientific and educational organizations, government bodies, and other interested stakeholders.
