Brief history of the first meteorological observations in the Kostanay region

In 1922, there were 4 weather stations in kustanaysky uyezd: Kustanay (1902), Lviv experimental field (1910), Sholaksay (1913), Fedorovka (1915). the oldest weather stations in the territory of the modern region were Torgay (1874) and Urkash, which worked in the salt fields from 1888 to 1917.

In the following years, such weather stations as Uritsk (Sarykol), Karasu, Kushmurun, Naurzum (Karamendy), Dzhetygara, Komsomolets (Karabalyk), Kenyaral, Semiozernoe (Auliekol) were opened. In 1933, a Regional meteorological station was established in Kostanay.

In 1951, the regional hydrometeorological bureaus (GMB) were established. Further, the Kostanay hydrometeorological Observatory is created on the basis of the GMB, and now the Branch of the RSE "Kazhydromet" in the Kostanay region.

In the 60s, there were weather stations Presnogorkovka, Mikhaylovka, Dievka, Bestau, Arshaly, Esenkul, Shevchenko, etc. Hydrological posts have been opened on the Tobol, Ubagan, Ayat, UY, and toguzak rivers.

The meteorological network of Kostanay region includes 19 meteorological stations, an aerological station Kostanay, 19 hydrological posts, 8 agrometeorological posts, 1 meteorological post. Since 2012, the first automatic stations have been installed in Altynsarinsky and Auliekolsky districts – 6 agricultural posts and 2 automatic stations on the territory of traditional operating weather stations. 1 automatic station is installed on the territory of the aerological station and the Ekidin weather station.

In addition, there is a network of environmental monitoring, in the cities of Kostanay, Rudny, and the village of Karabalyk there are automatic environmental monitoring stations. Since January 2017, a mobile laboratory has also been put into operation.
