On June 30, 2025, the “The second quarterly coordination meeting of the Regional Centers of the World Meteorological Organization RA VI (Europe) on the Integrated Global Observing System of WMO (WIGOS)”. The participants of this meeting are the national hydrometeorological services of the following countries: Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, EUMETNET, Kazakhstan (together with the Russian Federation and Belarus).
During the meeting, Kazhydromet presented a progress report for the second quarter of 2025.
It should be noted that since June 1, 2024, the National Hydrometeorological Services of three countries: Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Belarus have been piloting the activities of the “Distributed Regional Center of the Start of the RA VI".
The role of the Regional Center is to verify the availability and quality of data from ground-based observation points, which in turn improves the quality of numerical weather forecasts produced by Global Centers.
It is expected that with the successful implementation of the pilot phase, the center's activities will be officially approved during meetings of the WMO Executive Board, after which Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia will begin full-fledged functioning as a Distributed Regional Center.
