On September 10-11, Kyrgyzstan hosts a seminar organized by the Finnish Meteorological Institute on regional cooperation within the framework of the Early Warnings for All initiative.
The event is attended by representatives of the hydrometeorological services of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the main needs of Central Asian countries in the development of meteorological services and presented the main directions of the international regional project CAFIMET, which is planned to be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
The project is aimed at strengthening national and regional capacities in the field of weather, climate and air quality, developing early warning systems, improving observations, forecasting and data exchange.
The seminar also discussed a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The document provides for the development of cooperation, coordination of joint work and support for the implementation of the CAFIMET project.
Following the meeting, RSE Kazhydromet and the national hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries signed a Protocol of the meeting, which reflects the agreements reached and further steps towards the preparation and implementation of the project.
