The branch of RSE Kazhydromet in the East Kazakhstan and Abai regions, together with the Department of Emergency Situations of the East Kazakhstan region, carried out snow removal work as part of monitoring the snow cover and assessing the hydrological situation.
The joint snow survey was carried out at 20 snow measuring sites located near settlements in the basins of the Buktyrma, Naryn, Kursim, Kalzhyr, Kara-Kaba, Kara Yertis, Kandysu, Laila and Tayynty rivers. The work covered the territory of seven districts of the East Kazakhstan region:

• Kurchum district — 1 playground,
• Markakol district — 4 playgrounds,
• Zaisan district — 3 sites,
• Tarbagatai district — 2 playgrounds,

The snow measuring sites are located along the highway
Ust-Kamenogorsk – Altai – Ulken village Naryn – Kurchum village – Markakol village – Zaisan village – Akzhar village – Kokpekty village – Samarskoye village – Ust-Kamenogorsk, which made it possible to cover the key catchment areas of the region.
According to the results of the snow surveys, it was found that the height of the snow cover today ranges from 9 to 80 cm.
In the northern part of the region, the snow height is 30-33% lower than last year, and in the central and southern regions it is about 5% lower than last year's values.
On the Kalbinsky ridge (Samara region), snow reserves were 55% lower than in the same period last year.
The average water supply in the snow cover in the north of the region decreased by 30% compared to last year. In the central and southern regions of the region, this indicator is at the level of last year's values. In the area of the Kalbinsky ridge (Samara region), the water supply in the snow turned out to be two times lower than last year's values.
The data obtained is used by Kazhydromet specialists to assess the current hydrological situation and prepare forecasts for spring floods.
