Kazhydromet has released a preliminary drought forecast for June
According to the preliminary forecast, atmospheric drought is expected in June 2026:
in Kostanay region, in Amangeldy, Karasu, Auliekolsky and Dzhangeldy districts;
in West Kazakhstan region, Zhangalinsky district;
in the Karaganda region in the Shetsky district.
in Akmola region, in Yerementau and Arshali districts;
in Aktobe region, in Shalkar and Irgiz districts;
in Atyrau region, in Kurmangazinsky and Makhambet districts;
in the Karaganda region, in Aktogay, Nurinsky and Shetsky districts;
in Ulytau region, in separate settlements of Ulytau and Zhanaarka districts;
in Almaty region, in Zhambyl district;
in the Zhetisu region in the Alakol region;
in the Zhambyl region in the Talas region,
in the Kyzylorda region, in the Kazalinsky, Karmakshinsky, Shieli districts and in the city of Kyzylorda.
There is a high probability of local droughts in these areas.
In the rest of the country, humidification conditions are expected to be close to normal for this month.

The final forecast of humidification conditions for May 2026
According to the final calculations of the standardized precipitation indices, in May 2026, atmospheric humidification conditions in most of the republic's territory are expected to be close to long-term values. It should be noted that in some points, negative or positive values of the index do not fully reflect the degree of aridity, since this SIO index is based solely on precipitation statistics and does not take into account other key factors of drought formation. At the same time, high variability of synoptic conditions is possible during the month, due to active frontal activity, which can lead to their fluctuations during the month.
According to the weather forecast, precipitation in May is forecast to be about normal in most of the republic, less than normal in Kyzylorda, Ulytau region, most of Karaganda, Turkestan, Zhambyl, southeastern Aktobe, southern Kostanay, northern half of Almaty, the extreme south of Akmola regions, and the northwest of the region. Zhetisu, in the extreme southwest of the Abai region.
According to final calculations, the SIO in May is expected to be close to normal in most of the country and moderately dry in some areas. :
In Aktobe region, moderate drought is expected in some pastures in the Shalkar region, humidification is about normal in the rest of the region.
In Zhambyl region, moderate drought is expected in Kordai district, about normal in the rest of the region.
Humidification conditions are expected to be close to normal in North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Akmola, Pavlodar, West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Mangystau, Karaganda, Ulytau, East Kazakhstan, Abai, Almaty, Turkestan, Kyzylorda and Zhetisu regions.
